With the loss of safe heating materials | Camp fire claims the life of child near the border with Iskenderun region in northern Idlib

SOHR activists say that a child has died and six other children sustained burns, some serious, as a result of a fire in a camp for displaced people in Al-karama camps in the town of Atma near the border with the Iskenderun region in northern Idlib.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, a fire broke out in a tent due to the use of unsafe heating materials. The fire spread to nearby tents, resulting in a number of tents being completely burned, while many families have been rendered homeless.

The areas of Idlib are experiencing a significant rise in the fuel prices, forcing people to use unsafe heating materials such as waste, used clothing, synthetic rubber and kerosene and gas heaters.

The firewood stoves and diesel heaters are traditionally used and are more secure than the primitive ones used by the population because of poverty and the high price of these types of fuel.

On average, civilians pay approximately 6,000 Syrian pounds per day for wood or diesel as heating costs, while waste costs about a quarter of the value.
