Armed attack | Unknown gunmen kill member of “Golan Regiment” near the border with occupied Golan

Al-Quneitra Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: SOHR sources have reported that unknown gunmen opened fire, in the early hours of Monday morning, on a post of the regime’s ally forces of “Golan Regiment”, which is close to the Lebanese Hezbollah, in Jaba town in Al-Quneitra countryside. The attack resulted in the death of a member of “Golan Regiment”.

On January 7, Observatory activists said the IED which exploded earlier that morning in a car carrying people on the road to Mumtanah in the central countryside of Al-Quneitra, targeted a former opposition leader of the “Martyrs of Al-Quneitra” faction who struck a reconciliation deal and joinedthe Military Security “branch 220” with several members of the faction. The explosion killed the leader and injured three other people who were escorting him.

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 843 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 553 persons, categorised as follows:

  • 154 civilians, including 12 women and 16 children

  • 248 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services

  • 108 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders

  • 23 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces

  • 24 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
