Health authorities in north-western Syria recorded yesterday 32 new coronavirus cases, which brings the total number of infections to 20,800. In the meantime, the total number of recovery cases has risen to 14,345, while 266 other people died of the virus.

On January 9, SOHR sources reported that the number of coronavirus cases reached 20,646. Accordingly, 154 infections were documented in north-western Syria region in the past five days.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had monitored a significant decrease in the number of daily infected cases recorded by health authorities in north-western Syria since late 2020, as only dozens of infections were recorded, after hundreds of positive cases were recorded daily in earlier weeks and months.

On the other hand, civilians in the cities and towns of north-western Syria region are not adhering to precautionary measures, while markets and public gathering places are still operating, particularly the institutions of the “Salvation Government” and ” Interim Government”, universities and schools, in the light of a severe shortage of medical equipment. Meanwhile, organizations’ medical service is confined to the field clinics and mobile medical centres.
