Idlib | Camps’ inhabitants in countryside send out distress call to humanitarian organisations, as they rendered homeless

Idlib Province- Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources say that inhabitants of the camps of Harbanoush, Al-Fardous and Sheikh Bahr in Idlib countryside, sent out a distress call to humanitarian and relief organizations after floods devastated a number of their tents, caused damage to many of them and displaced their inhabitants, as bad weather and heavy rain continue.

On December 16, SOHR sources said that the refugee camps in the north-western Syria were experiencing a disastrous situation, especially with to the strong rain storm which hit the region.

Reliable sources have informed SOHR that over 20 refugee camps sustained substantial damage due to the heavy rain which left these camps’ inhabitants in the open, after parts of the camps’ walls have been destroyed and many tents have been blown away. It is worth noting that the damaged camps are concentrated in Deir Hassan, Qah, Sarmada, Al-Dana, Kafr Yahmoul, Al-Sheikh Bahr and other scattered areas host several makeshift camps.

Meanwhile, tens of families have been displaced to nearby places and other tents that have not been affected by the floods.

On the other hand, aid organizations are still unable to deal with the crisis, as their services are limited to repair and rehabilitate the damaged camps without setting a future plan to help the displaced people.

Every winter, the sufferings of displaced people in Idlib repeats, as camps and tents are flooded due to rain storms, forcing them to displace again to safer places.
