Northern Syria | Humanitarian disaster worsens in displacement camps, as some 250 tents flooded due to heavy rain

The displacement camps in northern Syria and along the border with the Iskenderun region, are witnessing a catastrophic humanitarian situation, threatening the lives of displaced people as a result of the military operations of the Syrian regime and its allies.

Every winter, the sufferings of displaced people in Idlib repeats, as camps and tents are flooded due to rain storms, while organizations concerned and the international community are still unable to deal with this suffering.

SOHR sources have confirmed that more than 250 tents were flooded in dozens of camps sheltering displaced people from different areas, as a result of the heavy rain in the area during the last hours, including the camps of Deir Hassan, Sarmada, Al-Dana, Um Jarn, Kafr Arouq, Kelli, Qah, Ma’ar Shorin, Zardana, Al-Halazouna, Tiba, Kafr Yahmoul, Al-Diyaa, Tal Al-Daman, Babsaqa, Al-Iba’a, Al-Nour, Aleppo al-Shehaba, Batbo, and other camps north of Idlib and western Aleppo.

Yesterday, SOHR sources said that inhabitants of the camps of Harbanoush, Al-Fardous and Sheikh Bahr in Idlib countryside, sent out a distress call to humanitarian and relief organizations after floods devastated a number of their tents, caused damage to many of them and displaced their inhabitants, as bad weather and heavy rain continue.

The Syrian Observatory also appeals to all organizations concerned and the international community to provide urgent support for the displaced people, including heating materials, clothing, food and medical supplies, and protect them in the face of the natural factors, which deepen their suffering as winter enters each year.
