Regime repression | Security services launch new campaign in Rif Dimashq, after arresting man and his wife

Rif Dimashq Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: SOHR activists have monitored security tension in Zakiyah town in south-western Rif Dimashq, after members of the 4th Division had arrested a man and his wife for unknown reasons.

In connection to this, residents demanded regime forces release the man and his, amid growing popular anger. However, regime forces faced the resident’s demand with a large-scale security campaign, arresting several young people from the area.

On January 8, SOHR sources said that unidentified gunmen shot dead a member of the “National Defence Forces” in a street in Al-Kiswa city in western Ghouta in Rif Dimashq.

While on November 20, 2020, SOHR sources reported that an IED exploded in a vehicle carrying a senior commander of the regime-backed “National Defense Forces” (NDF) in Harasta city in eastern Ghouta. According to SOHR sources, the explosion injured the commander seriously, and he was taken later to a hospital in the capital, Damascus.

It is worth noting that the commander hailed from Harasta city in Rif Dimashq, and he had handed over a large number of young people from the city, who were fighters in opposition factions, to regime security services. Moreover, the attacked commander had close relations with prominent drug dealers affiliated to the 4th Division, headed by Maher Al-Assad, the Syrian-regime president’s brother.
