SOHR | “Reports of meeting between regime, Israel and Russians in Hmeimim untrue”, normalisation negotiations take place in Russia, and regime representatives weigh up the cost

SOHR sources have confirmed that reports of a tripartite meeting between the Syrian regime and representatives of Israel and the Russians at the base of Hamimim in Latakia countryside, to negotiate the normalization of relations between al-Assad’s regime and Israel, are untrue.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, what happened was a meeting between the Russians and regime officials in Moscow and Damascus and the normalization of ties was discussed between the two sides. Regime representatives weight up the offer and what their regime will get in return, and whether normalisation will lead to the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Syria.

Normalisation with Israel will undoubtedly lead to the removal of Iran from Syria, despite the frequent reports of Iran being removed from Syria and Syria would avoid Israeli attacks by expelling Iran, particularly dealing with the issue continuously at the Hamimim base between Russian officers and regime officers supported by the Russians, the Iranians still enjoy considerable power inside Syrian territory.

Yesterday, reliable sources informed the Syrian Observatory that dozens of al-Bukamal tribal fighters from eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zour, who are affiliated with the pro-Iranian militias, left these militias and joined the 5th Corps established by Russia, which is strongly present in the area lately.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, the number of fighters who left pro-Iranian militias and joined the Fifth Corps has reached nearly 34. The number is expected to rise significantly in the coming days. This shift in loyalty comes in the light of the escalating attacks on Iranian forces and their loyal militias by Israel, particularly on Deir ez-Zor in general and Al-Bukamal in particular, most recent was a few days ago, in which 57 people were killed.
