48 hours after the Fourth Division’s large reinforcement | Regime forces deploy new checkpoints west of Daraa, blocking roads to civilian movement

Daraa governorate – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources have reported that regime forces, including the “Fourth Division” of Maher al-Assad, brother of the head of the regime, substantially deployed in the early hours of the morning in western countryside of Daraa governorate. Regime forces have set up new checkpoints in several areas, and brought in tanks and heavy vehicles, where new checkpoint were established next to al-Kansura in the town of Al-Muzayrip and other in Al-Masakin. While roads were cut off and closed to civilian movement. Civilian passers-by either on foot or those traveling by cars were not allowed to pass. No information has been reported so far about the regime forces’ aim of such movements.

It is worth noting that these movements come two days after the 4th Division brought in large military reinforcement.

Two days ago, reliable sources informed SOHR that the “Fourth Division” of the Syrian regime’s army, led by Maher al-Assad, brother of the regime’s president Bashar al-Assad, brought in large military reinforcement to their positions in Daraa province. Where dozens of vehicles, including tanks and trucks loaded with military and logistical equipment, and soldiers arrived this morning in the city of Daraa, coming from the capital Damascus.

These reinforcement are most likely part of a large-scale security campaign that the pro-Iranian 4th Division is preparing to launch in Daraa, particularly in western countryside, amid popular fears of arbitrary arrests as usual.
