Security chaos in Daraa | IED explodes killing civilian in Jassim city

Daraa governorate – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources say that a civilian was killed today of his injuries sustained in IED explosion in Jassim city in Daraa countryside.

Daraa governorate is witnessing an ongoing security chaos, coinciding with a growing security tension in western countryside between regime forces and local factions.

Yesterday, SOHR activists documented the injury of three civilians in the explosion of IEDs planted by unknown individuals near the house of a former member of the Sharia party and the Local Council in Jasem city, north of Daraa.

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 860 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 569 persons, categorised as follows:

  • 252 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services

  • 111 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders
  • 23 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces

  • 24 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
