In less than two hours | New attacks target six checkpoints of 4th Division and regime security services in different areas in Daraa

Daraa governorate – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

Daraa governorate is witnessing a new escalation in light of the widespread security chaos. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has monitored six attacks this evening in different areas in the province in less than two hours. All the attacks were carried out by unidentified gunmen by shooting at checkpoints belonging to the regime forces and their security services.

The targeted checkpoints are as follows:

  • A checkpoint of the 4th Division in Western Daraa countryside
  • A checkpoint between eastern Al-Ghariya and western al-Ghariya, east of Daraa
  • A checkpoint between Sayda and western Al-Gharia
  • A checkpoint in al-Karak al-Sharqi in the same countryside
  • Two checkpoints in Jassim city, north of Daraa

Meanwhile, these attacks have left only injuries.

Hours ago, SOHR sources said that unidentified gunmen shot dead the mayor of Nahta town today in front of his house in Nahta town in eastern Daraa countryside.

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 875 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 586 persons, categorised as follows:

  • 161 civilians, including 12 women and 16 children 
  • 264 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services

  • 113 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders 
  • 23 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces

  • 25 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
