Afrin violations | Turkish-backed military police brutally torture young man and threaten him of killing

Aleppo Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: Local sources have informed SOHR that the Turkish-backed military police in Afrin canton have released a young man, after he was found guiltless after nearly 24 hours of detention.

According to the sources, Turkish-backed factions were suspicious of the young man, who is from Deir Ezzor province, and he was arrested and taken to the military police station where he was brutally beaten. The Syrian Observatory has obtained several pictures showing the brutal torture the young man was subjected to, while these pictures have ignited widespread popular discontent against the practices and violations by the Turkish-backed military police and factions.

Local sources have confirmed that the young man refused to report further details as he was threatened of killing by the factions’ members, as individuals close to the victim said.

Meanwhile, activists have demanded the stopping of violations against civilians in areas under the control of Turkish-backed factions in the wake of the ongoing security chaos and terrorist bombings.

On February 2, SOHR sources said that Ankara-backed “military police” arrested four young men from the village of Simalka in Ma’abatli district in the countryside of Afrin, north-west of Aleppo, where they were taken to one of military police’s prisons, without knowing the reasons and motives behind the arrest.

While on January 30, SOHR activists reported that Ankara-backed factions raided several civilian houses in the village of Shuraba in Ma’abatli district in Afrin countryside, arresting four civilians for unknown reasons.
