Rising tension | Young people and residents with settled-status attack checkpoint of 4th Division nearby Kanaker

Rif Dimashq Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: SOHR sources have confirmed that young people and residents, who had struck reconciliation deals with regime security services in Kanaker town in Rif Dimashq, have attacked a checkpoint of the 4th Division at the town’s entrance with personal weapons. However, no casualties have been reported so far.

 

On the other hand, regime forces have brought in military reinforcement to the surrounding areas of Kanaker town in order to repel expected attacks by the town’s residents, after members of the 4th Division had shot dead a young man from the town this evening.

 

SOHR sources have just reported that gunmen of the 4th Division opened machinegun fire on two young men from Kanaker town in Rif Dimashq, killing one.

 

Meanwhile, SOHR activists monitored growing security tension and deployment of gunmen in the town’s streets, along with hearing sound of sporadic gunfire.

 

On the other hand, regime checkpoints in the surrounding areas of Kanaker were seen being put on high alert, while traffic on the roads to the town was blocked and shops in the town were closed.

 

On January 29, reliable sources informed SOHR that unknown gunmen attacked a regime checkpoint, in the early hours of the morning, in the area between Beit Tema and Beit Saber towns in Al-Haramoun area in western Rif Dimashq. No casualties were reported.
