Old ordnance | One child killed and another injured in landmine explosion in Homs province

Homs Governorate- Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR activists say that one child was killed and another seriously injured, as a landmine exploded in the Jurat al-Arais neighbourhood, which is under the control of regime forces in Homs.

Yesterday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the explosion of an old landmine left over from the Syrian war, on agricultural land in the village of Bahloniya in western countryside of Homs, which is under the control of regime forces. The explosion injured a civilian, and was taken to the hospital.

An increasing number of people killed recently by a landmine, unexploded bombs, and collapse of war-damaged residential buildings in various Syrian areas and cities such as Homs, Hama Deir Ezzor, Aleppo, and southern Syria.

The Syrian Observatory has documented since January 2019 to date some 427 fatalities, including 71 women and 139 children. Of the total number, the Syrian Observatory documented the deaths of 45 people, including 30 women and five children, in their search and collect for “Syrian wild truffles”, which put their lives at risk, “Syrian wild truffles” grow in areas that are exposed to heavy rains and are sold at high prices.
