Growing tension | Regime forces bring in military reinforcement to positions in western Daraa, amid popular fear of new security campaign
Daraa Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: SOHR activists have monitored regime forces brining in new military reinforcement to west Daraa countryside, as three buses carrying regime soldiers escorted by three tanks have arrived in Tel Hamad in the south of Sheikh Maskin town. Also, nine buses carrying regime soldiers have arrived in Al-Abqar farm on the road between Al-Muzayreb and Al-Yadoudah.
According to SOHR sources, members of the Iranian-backed militia of “Al-Radwan” have erected soil barriers at their positions near the “Agricultural School” in the university complex on the road between Al-Muzayreb and Al-Yadoudah in the western countryside of Daraa. Meanwhile, a state of panic is prevailing among the residents of the western countryside of Daraa for fear of launching a large-scale military campaign by regime forces and loyalists on the region.
A few hours ago, reliable sources told the Syrian Observatory that groups of the regime-backed 4th Division led by Maher al-Assad, brother of the Syrian regime’s president, fortified the division’s posts and the recently-established posts in western sector of Daraa countryside, as they were seen erecting soil barriers in the new posts.
According to Syrian Observatory sources, the 4th Division was seeking to establish other new posts in the region as a part of its efforts to clamp down on the people of the western countryside of Daraa, especially after the recent development in the region in 2021.
On February 2, SOHR sources reported seeing regime forces bringing in heavy weapons, tanks and ammunition to Al-Jame’at area on the road between Al-Muzayreb town and Al-Yadoudah in Daraa countryside. According to SOHR sources, these military reinforcement were brought with the aim to establish a military barracks containing members of the 4th Division and Iranian-backed militiamen.
In connection to this, regime forces blocked the road between Al-Muzayreb and Al-Yadoudah and transported the recent reinforcement from Kharab Al-Shahm area to Al-Salem complex in Nahaj village, then to Al-Jame’at area where the military barracks was located.
