Demanding the release of detainees | Women hold demonstration in Aleppo countryside, and HTS members open fire to disperse it

Aleppo Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR activists say that a group of women staged a demonstration near a checkpoint belonging to HTS in the village of Tala’ada in western Aleppo countryside, demanding the release of the detainees and the return of confiscated property, while HTS opened fire dispersing these groups.

On Febraury 3, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored a vigil held by dozens of teachers in front of the building of the Education Directorate of the “Salvation Government” in Idlib city, protesting non-payment of their salaries and the voluntary work for nearly five years.

In his testimony to the Syrian Observatory, one of the teachers said “Since the Salvation Government took control of Idlib in 2015, we got salaries for only five months provided by an organization, and since then we have been working voluntarily for nothing, and most of us are displaced from areas where military operations have taken place in Idlib countryside. We live in camps and we are suffering from difficult conditions.”

The teacher added “We were teaching children in our towns before the regime took control of these towns and after we were displaced we resumed teaching students at schools, north of Idlib. All primary school teachers are paid monthly salaries, unlike us, the middle and high school teachers, we haven’t received any salary from the Salvation Government for years. We have organized several previous protests but in vain, but this time we will go on strike and sit in our camps and homes.”

He ended his testimony speaking in slang “We are sure that officials in Idlib don’t care whether schools are closed or not. Because all their children are in private schools and institutes, but we fear for the future of our children and people’s children.”
