Russian Defense Ministry claims its base in “Hmeimim” was attacked, and SOHR sources deny allegations of attack by rebels

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that its forces in Syria intercepted, this evening, an attack by rocket-propelled grenades on the Hmeimim military base in Latakia province.

Syrian Observatory sources in the “de-escalation zone”, closer to the Latakia countryside, have confirmed that the factions did not fire any missiles towards regime positions at the time Hmeimim claimed intercepting an attack.

The frontlines of the “de-escalation zone” have been witnessing a tense calm since the morning, interspersed with a few shells falling on frontlines in Idlib and Aleppo.

In the meantime, sources in Latakia and near the Russian military base have denied hearing the sounds of launching rockets to repel these alleged targets.

In a statement issued Wednesday evening, the deputy director of the Hmeimim Centre for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria, which is affiliated with the Russian Defense Ministry, said in a statement:”At 19:45 Moscow time on February 9, the Russian Air Defense Forces intercepted an attack on the Hmeimim air base using long-range missile launchers, without causing damage.”
