Security chaos in Daraa | Explosion rocks town in eastern countryside

Daraa governorate – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources have reported an explosion in the town of Al-Ghariya al-Sharqiya in eastern countryside of Daraa on Friday evening. The explosion was caused by unknown gunmen throwing a grenade at a house in the northern neighbourhood of the town, causing material damage to the house and a car parked in front of it. No casualties have been reported. This comes in light of the ongoing security chaos in Daraa governorate.

Hours ago, unknown gunmen have fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) and opened machinegun fire, last night, on a military checkpoint of regime forces in Tasil town in the eastern countryside of Daraa. The attack left several regime soldiers injured.

Yesterday, unidentified gunmen attacked the regime security zone in Nawa city in western Daraa, using RPGs, grenades and machine guns, leaving several regime soldiers injured, amid unconfirmed reports of fatalities.

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 907 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 597 persons, categorised as follows:

  • 167 civilians, including 12 women and 16 children

  • 267 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services

  • 114 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders

  • 23 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces

  • 25 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
