Regime forces demanded earlier his departure to northern Syria | Unknown gunmen try to assassinate leader of opposition factions in Daraa

Daraa governorate – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources say that unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle targeted today a former leader of the opposition factions in Daraa with his companion, on the road between the town of Al-Yadouda and the city of Tafas, injuring the leader’s companion.

It is worth noting that the regime forces and the security committee in Daraa demanded the departure of the leader, who was subjected to an assassination attempt, along with five others to the north of Syria, before their departure was cancelled.

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 935 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 606 persons, categorised as follows:

  • 172 civilians, including 12 women and 16 children

  • 270 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services

  • 114 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders

  • 23 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces

  • 25 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
