Old ordnance | Explosion kills two civilians in eastern countryside of Hama, and today’s death toll rises to five people in the region

Hama Governorate- Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources have reported that two civilians were killed by a landmine explosion left over from the war, as a civilian car was passing on the Al-Rahjan-Abu Lafah road in eastern Hama countryside.

SOHR activists have documented today the death of three persons in the explosion of an old landmine in their motorcycle nearby Al-Shakousiyyah village in the eastern countryside of Sallamiyyah in eastern Hama.

This brings the death toll of the old ordnance explosions in eastern Hama countryside to five people in one day.

On February 20, Syrian Observatory activists documented the injury of a child due to the explosion of an old landmine nearby Al-Rahjan village in the eastern countryside of Hama. The boy was taken to the hospital for treatment.

On February 17, SOHR activists documented the injury of three civilians were injured in the explosion of an old landmine in Wadi Al-Azeeb area in the eastern countryside of Hama, while searching for wild truffle.

An increasing number of people killed recently by a landmine, unexploded bombs, and collapse of war-damaged residential buildings in various Syrian areas and cities such as Homs, Hama Deir Ezzor, Aleppo, and southern Syria.

The Syrian Observatory has documented since January 2019 to date some 442 fatalities, including 71 women and 144 children. Of the total number, the Syrian Observatory documented the deaths of 47 people, including 30 women and five children, in their search and collect for “Syrian wild truffles”, which put their lives at risk, “Syrian wild truffles” grow in areas that are exposed to heavy rains and are sold at high prices.
