Al-Mayadeen | 4th Division imposes levies on goods coming from regime-controlled areas in Aleppo and Damascus and SDF-held areas in eastern Euphrates

Deir Ezzor Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: Reliable sources have informed SOHR that security checkpoints of the 4th Division, headed by Maher Al-Assad the brother of the Syrian regime’ president, at the entrances of Al-Mayadeen city are clamping down on the region’s residents, as they impose large levies on trucks and vehicles carrying goods, mostly coming from Damascus and Aleppo.

According to SOHR sources, the city’s merchants have recently turned to smuggle their good via the southern entrance of Al-Mayadeen city from SDF-held areas in order to evade paying levies at the 4th Division’s checkpoints.

The 4th Division members therefore established a checkpoint near Al-Taybah roundabout near the city’s southern entrance where they imposed levies on the smuggled goods coming from SDF-held areas. Accordingly, the prices of goods and essentials have been greatly risen in regime-held areas.
