Old ordnance | Two consecutive explosions kill 18 people, including children, in eastern Hama countryside

Hama Governorate – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources have monitored two consecutive explosions in Wadi al-Azeeb area in the eastern countryside of Hama, as a result of old ordnance left over from the war, believed to be “anti-armor” mines, which exploded in a civilian car carrying workers from the area. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the death of 18 people and the injury of four others, including children, as a result of these explosions.

According to the sources, the car was carrying 22 workers who were killed and injured.

SOHR activists have confirmed that death of 11 people at least due to the explosion of an old landmine in a bus, believed to be carrying workers who search for truffle, in Wadi Al-Azeeb area in the north-eastern countryside of Salamiyyah in east Hama countryside.

An increasing number of people killed recently by a landmine, unexploded bombs, and collapse of war-damaged residential buildings in various Syrian areas and cities such as Homs, Hama Deir Ezzor, Aleppo, and southern Syria.

The Syrian Observatory has documented since January 2019 to date some 496 fatalities, including 72 women and 145 children. Of the total number, the Syrian Observatory documented the deaths of 112 people, including 45 women and six children, in their search and collect for “Syrian wild truffles”, which put their lives at risk, “Syrian wild truffles” grow in areas that are exposed to heavy rains and are sold at high prices.
