Netanyahu finally admits | The Russians continue searching for the remains of “Eli Cohen” in south Damascus

SOHR sources have reported that the Russians continue excavating graves and exhuming bodies in al-Yarmouk camp area in south Damascus since early February, searching for the remains of the two Israeli soldiers and the senior Israeli agent “Eli Cohen”. It is worth noting that the Russians are still cordoning off the area, preventing anyone from approaching the area. The assumption was that the Russian side would reach results and conclude the mission, especially since nearly 40 days have passed after the start of excavations and conducting DNA analyses of the remains exhumed from these graves, which sparked public anger in the region, as the Russians desecrated the dead with such operations. Meanwhile, these operations come with full consent of Syrian regime’s authorities which exploit the case in order to demand the release of more Syrian prisoners held in Israel, so that media outlets will polish Bashar Al-Assad as the “president who cares about his people”. The Syrian regime also takes the advantage of the case of the repatriation of Cohen’s remains for the reduction of sanctions imposed by USA on the regime.

It is worth noting that the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu finally admitted, yesterday, of the ongoing diligent efforts to repatriate the remains of Cohen from Syria.

On February 23, SOHR sources reported that more than three weeks have passed since the Russian forces started to search for the remains of two Israeli soldiers and prominent Israeli spy, Elie Cohen, in south of the capital Damascus. The Russians continue excavating graves and exhuming bodies in al-Yarmouk camp in search of the remains of the Israelis who were killed decades ago and buried in the area. And the assumption was that the Russian side would reach results and conclude the mission after three weeks of excavations and conducting DNA analyses of the remains exhumed from these graves, which sparked public anger in the region, as the Russians desecrated the dead with such operations. The Syrian regime and authorities remained silent on the issue throughout.

This came in light of the Russian sponsored “deal” between Israel and Syria a few days ago, and the suggestions and that normalization of ties with Israel would follow next, as the famous Syrian actor who is close to the regime Duraid Lahham said that he had no objection to normalization under certain conditions.
