Eastern Daraa countryside | Unknown gunmen try to assassinate former opposition fighter

Daraa Governorate – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

As security chaos continues in Daraa, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has monitored a new assassination attempt, where unknown assailants opened fire on a person in the town of Al-Harak in eastern countryside of Daraa, injuring him. The young man was a former opposition fighter who struck a reconciliation deal after the regime took control of Daraa.

Yesterday, The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the killing of a collaborator with the regime security services on the outskirts of Daraa al-Balad city, after being shot dead by unknown gunmen in the area of Al-Shayah.

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 973 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 655 persons, categorised as follows:

  • 180 civilians, including 12 women and 17 children
  • 305 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services
  • 119 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders
  • 23 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces
  • 26 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
