Coronavirus outbreaks | Large number of Iranian-backed militiamen in Al-Mayadeen infected with the virus, while hospitals reach full operational capacity
Deir Ezzor Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: A medical source in “Fatema Al-Zahraa” hospital, specified for the Iranian-backed militiamen in Al-Mayadeen city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, has informed SOHR that the hospital is unable to receive any new Iranian-backed militiamen infected with COVID-19, as the number of infections in the section allocated to coronavirus cases have reached 65 in just a few days. According to SOHR sources, preparations are underway to open a new section for COVID-19 infections in the industrial high school near that hospital, where new cases will be quarantined.
On April 3, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Syrian regime announced the suspension of the educational process in public and private universities and institutes for two weeks from Monday, April 4 to April 17, as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of coronavirus, which is widespread in various Syrian provinces. The decision coincides with the failed policy of the regime and the authorities concerned with this issue, at a time when regime authorities continued misinformation and keeping the real number of daily deaths and infection cases with coronavirus secret.
Coronavirus is spreading in various provinces in its third peak on Syrian territory, as hospitals beds are full which portends a disaster, while the regime takes no action.
As SORH continues monitoring and tracking the escalating number of coronavirus cases and deaths in regime-held areas, reliable medical sources in regime-controlled areas have confirmed that nearly 102,000 new Covid-19 cases have been detected in the past few days, while 1,193 other cases died of the virus in the same period.
Moreover, large number of deaths are claimed to be caused by pneumonia, despite the broad outbreak of the virus throughout Syria.
According to SOHR latest statistics, based on reports obtained from reliable medical sources on the ground in regime-controlled areas, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has approximated 659,900, of whom 401,000 recovered, and 21,184 died.
It is worth noting that regime Ministry of Health’ official statistics announced 19,164 infections, of whom 12,88 people died and 12,977 recovered.
It is also worth noting that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the death of 172 doctors in the Syrian regime-held areas due to coronavirus in 2020, and they were documented by names.
