Searching for truffle | Two people killed and 12 others injured in landmine explosion in Homs countryside

Homs Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: SOHR activists have documented the death of two civilians affected by the injuries they sustained in the explosion of an old landmine in Sadd Wadi Abyad area in Palmyra desert in the eastern countryside of Homs.

 

SOHR sources have just reported that nearly 12 people, including women, sustained various injuries and were taken to hospitals in the eastern countryside of Homs, after they entered a mine field while they were searching for truffle in Sadd Wadi Abyad in Palmyra desert in the eastern countryside of Homs. There were unconfirmed reports of fatalities, as some of these people sustained serious injuries.

 

Syrian Observatory activists have documented the death of 509 people, including 77 women and 157 children, by mines and IED explosions and the collapse of cracked residential buildings in several areas of the Syrian territory in Homs, Hama, Deir Ezzor, Aleppo and the Syrian South since early January 2019.

 

Among the total death toll, there are 124 persons, including 47 women and six children, who were killed during their search and collection of the truffle which grows in the areas that is subjected to heavy rain, and it is sold at very high prices.
