Dire living conditions | Prices of vegetables and essential products in Idlib markets increase in Ramadan

Since the beginning of Ramadan, the prices of vegetables and food have noticeably increased throughout Idlib, making the residents living in areas under the control of Hayyaat tahrir Al-Sham and opposition factions shoulder extra burdens, especially since most of the residents in Idlib have been forced to displace from various provinces. Meanwhile, SOHR sources have monitored growing popular anger over the astronomically inflated prices.

SOHR sources have reported a list of the recent prices of essential products and some vegetables, comparing it with a list of prices before Ramadan as follows:

Before Ramadan

  • Cucumber: 4 TL per kilo

  • Tomatoes: 4 TL per kilo

  • Parsley: 35 piasters per a bundle

  • Lemon: 2 TL per kilo

  • Lettuce: 50 piasters per kilo

  • Potatoes: 75 piasters per kilo

  • Courgettes: 3.5 TL per kilo

  • Pepper: 8 TL per kilo

After Ramadan

  • Cucumber: 9 TL per kilo

  • Tomatoes: 8 TL per kilo

  • Parsley: 1 TL per a bundle

  • Lemon: 5 TL per kilo

  • Lettuce: 1.5 TL per kilo

  • Potatoes: 1.5 TL per kilo

  • Courgettes: 4 to 9 TL per kilo

  • Pepper: 8 to 15 TL per kilo

It is worth noting that the prices are set at the Turkish lira, as the residents in Idlib are forced to deal in the Turkish currency, after the Syrian currency plunge.
