April 2021 | Over 50 attacks across Daraa province leave nearly 45 people dead

Security chaos is still escalating throughout Daraa province which is under symbolic regime domination, while the Russians and Iranians are the de facto rulers of the province. Daily attacks, assassinations and assassination attempts occur in different areas across the province, mostly target regime soldiers and collaborators, while some attacks target former opposition fighters who struck reconciliation deals with the regime’s security services, civilians and members of other military formations operating in Daraa.

 

As security chaos has been noticeably escalating, SOHR activists could document over 51 attacks in Daraa province in April 2021. These attacks left 43 people dead, and they were as follows: 12 civilians, including two children, 19 regime soldiers and “collaborators”, ten former opposition fighters, one member of the 5th Corps, and one individual “collaborating” with Iranian-backed militias.

 

In March, SOHR activists documented the death of 48 people in 46 attacks. The fatalities were distributed as follows: 39 members of regime forces and security services, “collaborators” and individuals with settled-status, and nine civilians, including two children the father of one of them was a regime “collaborator”.

 

While in February, 21 people were killed in 54 attacks, and they were as follows: 11 civilians, nine regime soldiers, “collaborators” and ex-fighters, and one member of the 5th Corps.

 

Also, SOHR activists documented 43 attacks in January, which left 41 people dead, and they were as follows: nine civilians, 21 regime soldiers and “collaborators”, ten former opposition fighters and one Iranian-backed militiaman.

 

Accordingly, the Syrian Observatory documented 194 attacks since the beginning of 2021, which left at least 153 people dead. The breakdown of fatalities could be distributed as follows:

 

  • 41 civilians, including five children

 

  • 81 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services

 

  • 27 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders

 

  • Two Syrian militiamen affiliated to Iranian forces

 

  • Two members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.

 

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 1,017 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 698 persons, categorised as follows:

 

  • 193 civilians, including 12 women and 21 children

 

  • 324 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services

 

  • 129 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders

 

  • 25 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces

 

  • 27 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
