Coronavirus in Autonomous Administration’s areas | Humanitarian organization stops supporting the only centre for quarantine and sampling in Deir Ezzor
The Autonomous Administration-held areas in Syria are witnessing alarming outbreak of coronavirus, in light of the economic hardship and poor health services, along with the shortage of water in the region.
In this context, one of the humanitarian organizations refused to continue supporting and working in “Covid” centre for quarantine and sampling in Al-Shuhayl Public Surgical Hospital in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, in light of the considerable increase in the number of deaths and infections in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
It is worth noting that “Covid” is the only centre in the region and it covers the area from Al-Baghouz in the east to Al-Suwar in the north, in the central-eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
According to medical sources, the number of coronavirus infections reached 40 cases in April, among them there were four people died. Meanwhile, 12 infected cases have been still receiving treatment in the centre until the day when the hospital administration was informed of the humanitarian organization’s decision of the closure of the centre and the suspension of financial support. However, the centre is still functioning.
Moreover, the people of the region appealed to relevant organizations and authorities to open new centres to contain the spread of coronavirus, and to bear responsibility for the consequences of medical sector’s failure in the region.
