SDF dismiss reports of the release of local ISIS commander in NE Syria
Leading sources of Syria Democratic Forces have confirmed that the reports circulated on the release of a local ISIS commander after mediation by tribe elders are completely untrue. The sources added that the commander will leave SDF-held areas according to a scheduled time.
On the other hand, Intelligence sources have confirmed that the commander has been already released, amid growing popular discontent.
On March 31, SOHR sources reported growing popular discontent in SDF-held areas in al-Raqqah, following the release of a former ISIS member by SDF, after mediation by tribal elders, despite being sentenced to 25 years in prison. This development ignited popular resentment as many people in SDF prisons were accused of “belonging to and dealing with ISIS” without investigation or clear charges, but they were not released.
