Syrian desert | Russian jets execute intensive strikes on ISIS positions, with preparations for large-scale military campaign

ISIS attack in Palmyra countryside leaves casualties

SOHR activists have reported seeing Russian fighter jets flying over the Syrian desert, along with executing intensive strikes on ISIS positions in Jabal Al-Beshri area in the administrative border between Deir Ezzor and al-Raqqah and in other areas in Aleppo-al-Raqqah-Hama triangle. These airstrikes coincide with ongoing preparations by Russian, regime forces and their proxies for launching a large-scale campaign against ISIS in Hama and al-Raqqah countryside.

 

On the other hand, four regime soldiers and loyalists were killed and eight others were injured in attack by ISIS members in Palmyra countryside in east Homs desert a few hours ago.

 

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported seeing military convoys, including members from the 11th Division of regime forces, the 25th Division led by “Suhail Al-Hassan”, the Russian-backed Fifth Corps and al-Quds Corps, heading to the Syrian desert, According to the sources, preparations were underway to launch a large-scale military operation in Hama and al-Raqqah deserts, with the participation of Russian fighter jets.

 

Since 24th of March 2019, SOHR has documented the killing of at least 1,406 regime soldiers and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, including at least two Russians, and 149 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. All were killed in attacks, bombings and ambushes by the “Islamic State”, west of Euphrates in the deserts of Deir Ezzor, al-Raqqah, Homs, al-Suwaidaa, Hama and Aleppo.

 

Also, four civilians working in gas fields, tens of shepherds and other civilians were killed and documented by SOHR in the same period, from late March 2019 until today. They were killed in attacks by ISIS cells. While 936 ISIS members were also killed in attacks and bombardment in the same period.
