Unstable security in Daraa | Regime-backed militiamen and members of security services die of wounds sustained in earlier attacks

Daraa Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: SOHR activists have documented the death of a member of the 4th Division affected by the injury he had in an armed attack, over a week ago, nearby Tel Shehab in the western countryside of Daraa. It is worth noting that this member’s escort was killed immediately in the attack.

On the other hand, the number of members of the military security services who were killed due to an armed attack by unknown gunmen on their car in Sayda town in eastern Daraa has increased to three.

This development coincides with the noticeable escalation of organized attacks throughout the province, which look like the uprising witnessed in the beginning of the “Syrian Revolution”.

Yesterday, SOHR activists have documented the death of a member of the military security services and injury of three others, after unidentified gunmen opened machinegun fire on a military vehicle carrying four members of regime forces near the town of Sayda in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 1,020 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 702 persons, categorised as follows:

  • 193 civilians, including 12 women and 21 children

  • 328 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services

  • 129 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders

  • 25 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces

  • 27 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
