Daraa security vacuum | Civilian assassinated on road to Naseeb

Daraa province: As security chaos is escalation throughout Daraa, SOHR activists have documented the death of a civilian after being shot by unknown gunmen, while he was going to his farm on the road between Daraa city and Naseeb in Daraa countryside. It is worth noting that the attackers have stolen the victims properties and money, while SOHR sources have confirmed that the victim has not affiliated to any military formation.

ASOHR sources reported earlier today that an official of Baath Party was killed in the town of al-Sahwa in the eastern countryside of Daraa by unknown gunmen in the early morning. The Syrian Observatory activists also reported that a former fighter of the rebel factions, who had struck a reconciliation deal with regime and joined the “Fourth Division”,  was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the town of Tel Shehab in the western countryside of Daraa. The incidents coincides with the significant escalation of killings throughout Daraa governorate.

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 1,035 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 716 persons, categorised as follows:

  • 197 civilians, including 12 women and 21 children

  • 336 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services.

  • 131 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders.

  • 25 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces.

  • 27 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
