Since early 2021 | Eight new-born babies found, mostly in north of Syria

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented, since early 2021, that eight children were found on the roads and abandoned places, in several Syrian regions, most of them were found in the northern regions of Syria, which are outside the control of the Syrian regime.

A new-born girl was found this morning at al-Khaliliya village junction, east of Bazaa town in the countryside of al-Bab city in the eastern countryside of Aleppo.

On May 10, SOHR activists reported that a new-born child was found in al-Hamidiyah market in the city of Marea’ in the northern countryside of Aleppo .

In early May, a new-born girl was found thrown by unknown persons under the stairs of a building near the Health Directorate in regime-controlled city of Deir Ezzor.

On March 24, a baby was found inside an abandoned house in the city of Jisr Al-Shughour in the western countryside of Idlib. On March 23, also, another baby was found in a box on a street in Idlib.

On March 2, a baby was found in a bag in the fourth section of al-Hawl camp in al-Hasakah countryside.

On February 22, people found a several-month-old child who was still alive, inside a clothes bag, near a mosque in the city of Ariha in Idlib countryside. A day earlier,  the Syrian Observatory reported that a new-born girl was found inside a cardboard box on the side of Maryamin-Darkush road in the western countryside of Idlib, where she died due to the cold while a group of people were trying to take her to the hospital.

On January 19, a new-born baby was found on the road in al-Qusour neighbourhood in Idlib.
While on January 12, a civilian found another child thrown on a sidewalk in the city Ariha in Idlib.

It is worth noting that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented in 2020 nearly 70 incidents of finding new-born babies of unknown parentage in Idlib city and countryside, with nearly 40% of these incidents  documented in Idlib city alone, while the rest of  were documented in other towns and villages, including Ma’saran, Maarrat Misrin, Salqin in the northern countryside of Idlib and Ariha in the southern countryside of Idlib. Most of those babies were found on the roadside and in front of mosques.
