Over charges of “hiding rebels” | Regime security services arrest five brothers in eastern Ghouta

Rif Dimashq province: Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) activists have reported that the regime security services have arrested five brothers after storming a farm they live in, in the area between Wadi Ain Terma and Wadi Kafrbanta in eastern Ghouta five days ago.

According to SOHR sources, the detention operation has happened over accusations against the five brothers of “hiding some members of opposition factions during their control of eastern Ghouta and giving them information that helped in attacking and later controlling the Dohkania area in eastern Damascus in September 2014. The location of the defendants’ farms which is overlooking the road between al-Maliha  and Jaramana at the opposite side of the Dohkania area facilitated sneaking the information.

On April 19, SOHR sources reported that regime security services recently entrusted to the “Criminal Security” branch the arrest of wanted individuals, who participated in the uprising or worked in civil institutions affiliated with the opposition in eastern Ghouta in Rif Dimashq, before the evacuation of the opposition factions. According to SOHR sources, the Syrian regime’s security services referred the files of many detainees to the “Criminal Security” branch, so that they can evade the Russians’ requests, especially with the appeals by detainees’ families to the Russian police to set the detainees free or disclose their fate. Accordingly, the opposition detainees would not be allowed to be released under the pretext that “they were involved in criminal cases not political ones”.
