Idlib | More than 20 tents burned down in camp near Syria-Turkey border

Idlib province: A large fire broke out in Adam camp in the village of Khirbet al-Joz in the west of Idlib, near the Syria-Turkey border, where the fire devoured more than 20 tents displacing their residents.

According to local sources, the fire was caused by a short circuit in a battery inside one of the tents.

On May 10, a fire ignited in the evening in al-Amal camp near Hazarah town in areas under the control of Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham in northern Idlib. The fire resulted in the death of two women and a child.

According to local sources, the fire, ignited after the explosion of a gas cylinder, also devoured several tents, which caused material damage to properties in these tents and left their inhabitants in the open.

Earlier, SOHR activists monitored the burning of a tent in al-Amal Bellah camp in Kafr Bani village in the northern countryside of Idlib, due to an electrical fire caused by lighting battery, which caused material losses.

It is worth noting that the lack of safety measures in refugee camps leads to more losses, as the displaced people rely on primitive ways to extinguish fires, especially with the lack of water and the unpaved roads to makeshift camps.

Displaced people living in camps are suffering from dire living conditions, especially with lack of care provided by aid organizations and charities, as the situation in refugee camps is worsened in summer due to dust and high temperature. While in winter, these camps also experienced several fires caused by misusing primitive heaters and other unsafe material used for heating, including clothes, tires and garbage.

Such fires usually cause human and material losses and leave many displaced people in the open after losing their tents on some occasions.
