Escalating security chaos in HTS-held areas | Several people killed and wounded in three attacks in a week

Idlib province: SOHR activists have documented hearing an explosion near the railway station in Jisr al-Shughour city this evening, caused by an IED explosion in a military vehicle affiliated to the factions. The explosion resulted in the injury of the vehicle’s driver.

 

Accordingly, the number of attacks and murders which targeted military personnel in HTS-held areas in the past week has risen to three.

 

Syrian Observatory activists in these areas have documented the death of 50 persons since the beginning of 2021 by bombings, shooting or kidnapping and then getting rid of much of the bodies in remote areas in Idlib and the surrounding villages or in Aleppo, Hama and Latakia.

 

On May 21, SOHR activists reported that an IED exploded in a military vehicle in Salqin city on the border with Iskenderun in north-western countryside of Idlib. The explosion killed an officer, who had split from regime army and joint the Turkish-backed “National Liberation Front”.

 

On May 17, SOHR activists Reported that residents found the body of a prominent member of Ahrar al-Sharqiyah faction operating under the banner of the pro-Turkey “National Army”. According to the Syrian Observatory sources, the member was killed with cold weapons on the outskirts of Idlib. It is worth noting that the dead man had engaged in battles with the Turkish forces in Afrin, and “Peace Spring” Operation.
