Deteriorating security in al-Hawl camp | Assassination attempt targets Iraqi refugee

Al-Hasakah province: SOHR activists have documented the injury of an Iraqi refugee in al-Hawl camp in the south-eastern countryside of al-Hasakah, after members of ISIS cells opened fire on him. The refugee was taken later to a hospital in al-Hasakah.

 

On May 28, SOHR activists documented the death of a Syrian man in gunfire by ISIS affiliates in the fifth sector of al-Hawl camp in the south-eastern countryside of al-Hasakah. It is worth noting that this was the first murder that target displaced Syrian people in the camp since the end of the first phase of the security campaign. The incident was also the seventh murder in the camp during the same period, which indicated to alarming escalation of killings in the camp.

 

While on May 19, SOHR activists documented two new murders in al-Hawl camp in the far south-eastern region of al-Hasakah, as two female Iraqi refugees were shot dead by unknown gunmen believed to be of ISIS affiliates in the camp’s first section.

 

Also, Syrian Observatory activists reported , on May 12, that an Iraqi refugee was shot dead by ISIS affiliates in al-Hawl camp, in the far south-east region of al-Hasakah.

 

It is worth noting that this murder was the fourth since the end of the first phase of the security campaign, which rises fears of the return of escalated murders in al-Hawl camp.

 

On May 9, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) found, at dawn, the body of an Iraqi refugee woman with gunshot wounds in the head in the first section of al-Hawl camp, which is allocated to Iraqi refugees, and the responsibility  falls mainly on ISIS affiliates  in the camp.
