Al-Hasakah city witnesses ongoing clashes accompanied by aerial bombardment

Al-Hasakah Province:

Clashes are still taking place between IS against the regime forces and the militiamen loyal to them after a violent attack by IS yesterday on Al-Hasakah city, where IS could take control over the neighborhoods in the south and southwest of the city, coincided with shelling by regime aircrafts on IS positions in the area, also a loud explosion was heard in the city, it is believed to be due to detonating a booby- trapped car, information about more casualties on both sides.

 

It is noted that, this attack is considered the fourth attack carried out on the city since May 30, where IS could advance in the third attack and take control over al-Ahdath Prison, the electricity company, the village of al- Dawodeyyi and other areas in the city before the regime forces and allied militiamen forced IS to retreat. The clashes accompanied by committing 11 suicide bombs by IS militants when they blew themselves up in booby- trapped vehicles in al-Ahdath Prison, the electricity company and near the regime checkpoints in south and southeast of the city of al-Hasakah. The clashes resulted in the death of at least 71 members of the regime forces and allied militiamen, including a leading figure in al-Baath battalions in al-Hasakah, as well as 48 IS militants. SOHR also documented the death of at least 43 IS militants with their families due to targeting a market in the city of al-Shaddadi by 4 rockets in late May, while 3 other civilians killed due to fall of shells on the city.
