Violations against Syria’s heritage | Uzbek fighters damage sculptures and paintings in Idlib museum, amid inaction by the museum’s administration

Idlib province: Local sources have reported that Uzbek members affiliated to Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham have stormed Idlib museum, damaging sculptures, statues, paintings and mosaic for unknown reasons. However, the museum’s administration of the “Salvation Government” has issued no official statement regarding these practices.

It is worth noting that most of artifacts in Idlib museum have been looting with the entry of Jaysh al-Fath to Idlib in March 2015 when it cordoned off the museum. Civilians also accuse the military formations operating in the region of “stealing the museum’s artifacts and transporting to unknown place, after their control of Idlib city”. it is also worth noting that the museum had come under attack by regime force which facilitated the looting of its contents.
