Fuel crisis | Watad company raises prices in HTS-held areas in Idlib, as Turkish currency plummets

SOHR activists in areas controlled by Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham and opposition factions in Idlib province have reported a new increase in the prices of fuel by HTS-backed fuel companies. The maximum average of prices in petrol stations have been set as follows:

  • Imported petrol: 6.66 TL per litre

  • Imported oil (high quality): 6.26 TL per litre

  • Imported oil (medium quality): 5.19 TL per litre

  • Refined oil: 4.41 TL per litre

  • A gas cylinder: 91 TL.

As always, the increase in fuel prices has been justified to the increase in exchange rate of the US dollar against the Turkish currency adopted in the areas controlled by the factions in Idlib province.

On April 24, SOHR activists reported that the HTS-backed “Watad Petroleum Company” in Idlib raised the prices of fuel following the Turkish currency plunge against the US dollar, as the Salvation Government adopted the Turkish lira as the official currency in areas under its control. The new prices were set as follows:

  • Imported oil: 6.11 TL per litre.

  • Petrol: from 6.35 TL per litre.

  • Gas cylinder: 89 TL.

It is worth noting that this increase in fuel prices by Watad company was the first in Ramadan.
