Searching for ISIS members | Russian-backed “5th Division” starts new combing campaign in Deir Ezzor and Homs countryside
SOHR activists have reported that Russian-backed “5th Division” have started on Monday morning a new combing operation in the Syrian desert in search for ISIS members in the region.
Combing operation escorted by Russian military planes, that carry out intensive rids in the region, have expanded from Kabgab area in southern Deir Ezzor to al-Shoknah region in eastern Homs desert.
Yesterday, Observatory sources reported that Russian jets executed tens of raids on Syrian desert, targeting various areas in Hama and Homs deserts and Jabal al-Bashry area with over 60 airstrikes. The Russian airstrikes coincided with regime forces’ ongoing campaign for searching for ISIS cells hideouts in the region.
On June 18, SOHR activists reported a hit-and-run attack by ISIS on positions of regime forces and their proxy militias in Marija al-Jamalan district in eastern countryside of Hama, which resulted in the injury of several regime soldiers, one seriously.
SOHR activists monitored wide deployment by members of the National Defence Forces and Russian-backed militias near al-Dabyat oil field in al-Sukhnah desert in the eastern countryside of Homs and in Jabal al-Bishry area in Deir Ezzor desert, searching for hidden ISIS cells.
Moreover, SOHR obtained information confirming that ISIS members implemented several ambushes and hit-and-run attacks on regime positions in al-Sukhnah in the countryside of Homs.
