Al-Hasakah | “National Defense” militia seizes school southern al-Qamishli and tuned it into military headquarters

Al-Hasakah province: SOHR activists have reported that a military group affiliated to Syrian regime-backed National Defense has seized a school in Garmez village south of al-Qamishli city, turning it into military headquarters. On the other hand, SOHR activists have reported in midnight, that persons believed to be members of National Defense by throwing a sound bomb at a checkpoint of international forces “Asayish” in al-Tamy neighborhood in al-Qamishly that has been recently completely controlled by Asaysih.

On May 23, National Defense Forces established an assembly center east Dawar Zouri at M4 highway southern al-Qamishli, part of which is under control of the regime forces. The move came after the NDF were kicked off from several neighborhoods in al-Qamishli city in the past time after fighting with Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in Tai and Haliko districts. Meanwhile, SOHR activists reported that soldiers of the regime forces deployed in Zenoud village southern AL-Qamishli were teasing the people in the village via seizing their allocations of bread and then sell it in the black market.

On May 17, SOHR sources reported that the “director of al-Qamishli area” known by his initials as L.S. sells, via brokers, large amounts of state-subsidized bread allocated for civilians in al-Baath bread bakery in al-Qamishli city, which is close to the security zone, for his own favour. Moreover, the commanders of security branches in the area seize the remaining bread produced by al-Baath bakery in order to sell it in markets at higher prices. It is worth noting that a specific share of the production of al-Baatj bread bakery is sold to brokers every day at dawn, while the residents get no more than 5% of this production, which has worsened the bread crisis throughout the city of al-Qamishli.

Furthermore, the “director of al-Qamishli area” takes advantage of his post to take over the profits of other projects like the electrically-generated amperes providing houses and shops with electricity.
