Significant alertness in west Euphrates region | Iranian-backed militias redeploy their troops between al-Mayadeen and al-Bokamal

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR activists in west Euphrates region have reported that Iranian-backed militias redeployed their troops once again in al-Mayadeen city in eastern Deir Ezzor, al-Mazare’ area and towns and villages between al-Mayadeen and al-Bokamal, including al-Quriyyah, Mahakan, al-Asharah, al-Salihiyah, al-Abbas, al-Sayyal and al-Jalaa. Meanwhile, these militias were seen on high alert for fear of expected strikes, after the rocket attacks in the past few hours by the International Coalition, which followed bombardment by the Iranians on al-Omar oil field, the US military base in east Euphrates region.

Yesterday, SOHR activists monitored frequent flights by the International Coalition helicopters and fighter jets over al-Mayadeen city in the countryside of Deir Ezzor, which is under the control of regime forces and Iranian militias.

On the other hand, artillery units of the International Coalition stationed in the labor residential city in al-Omar oil field targeted positions of Iranian-backed militias in al-Mayadeen city in Deir Ezzor countryside.

It is worth noting that the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces and Iranian-backed militias redeployed in al-Mayadeen city after they shelled al-Omar oil field where the American military base is located.

A few hours earlier, SOHR activists reported hearing loud explosions in al-Mayadeen city which is under the control of Iranian forces in the countryside of Deir Ezzor, along with flights by International Coalition aircraft over the region. It was not clear if these explosions were caused by Coalition airstrikes or by rockets fired by Americans stationed at al-Omar oil field.

SOHR activists also monitored the withdrawal of Iranian militias from the areas which were shelled, including south al-Mayadeen city, and redeployed in residential neighbourhoods in the city

SOHR activists had reported that several artillery shells hit al-Omar oil field and the field’s residences in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, where a US military base is located, which caused material damage and burned down some cars at the targeted site, but no casualties were reported so far.
