As tight siege imposed | Regime forces block roads to Daraa al-Balad

Daraa province: SOHR sources have reported that the regime security checkpoints have blocked the roads leading to Daraa al-Balad from Gharaz area to the east of Daraa al-Balad. This development comes as a part of the siege imposed on the neighbourhoods of Daraa al-Balad, amid confirmed reports of prevision of these neighbourhoods residents by the checkpoints from traveling in and out the region, after the siege had included the indigenous residents only, with the aim to exert pressure on the city’s residents who refused Russia’s demands to strike new reconciliations and settlements with dozens of people, seize their personal weapons and force ex-commanders who struck reconciliation deals to move their work to al-Duraij area.

On June 26, SOHR sources reported flights by fighter jets over Daraa province for the second consecutive day, along with flight by Russian reconnaissance drones over the eastern countryside of Daraa.

This development came as a part of the Syrian regime’s attempts to exert pressure over tens of the residents of Daraa city who refuse to strike new reconciliation deals and hand over their individual weapons and force ex-commanders who struck reconciliation deals to move their work to al-Duraij area.

A day earlier, SOHR activists reported a demonstration by tens of people in al-Muzayrib town in the western countryside of Daraa, expressing solidarity with the people of Daraa al-Balad, after Russia’s demands to strike new reconciliations and settlements with dozens of people and seize their personal weapons.

Daraa city had experienced a demonstration by residents protesting the Russian demands to strike new settlements with dozens of people, seize their personal weapons, transfer former leaders who had struck reconciliation deals to al-Duraij area and closure of the major roads in the areas of Daraa al-Balad and Daraa al-Mahatah.

Earlier that day, Daraa city witnessed flights by fighter jets for the second time since regime forces captured the province in 2018. These overflights came as a part of exerting pressures upon the residents and inhabitants of the city who reject Russian demands, while regime forces and their security service closed the major road in the city, particularly in Daraa al-Balad and Daraa al-Mahatah.

Earlier in the morning, SOHR activists reported the arrival of military reinforcement brought in by regime forces and security services in Daraa city as well as the closure of major roads to the city in light of Russian demands, including the striking of new settlements and handing over personal weapons belonging to dozens of people in the city. Such practices ignited wide popular anger, amid calls for protests rejecting such demands.

On June 24, SOHR activists reported that Russian officers met with the central committee in Daraa city, nearly a week ago, where they asked them to hand over personal weapons that were possessed by some persons in some neighborhoods in Daraa and urged them to strike new reconciliation and settlement deals. However, the Russians’ requests were met with wide popular rejection in the areas of Hawaran.
