Daraa security vacuum| After clashes and arrests in Elemtaih village, 5th Corps tortures detainees and keep 29 civilians in prisons

Daraa province: SOHR activists have reported that the 5th Corps troops have released 10 civilians after being arrested few days earlier in Elemtaih village in the countryside of Daraa.

According to SOHR sources, one of the released civilians was subjected to brutal torture, where SOHR has received a photo showing torture on his body, while 29 other civilians are still remained in the prisons of the 5th Corps.

SOHR activists in eastern countryside of Daraa had reported that elements of the “Liwaa 8th”, which is affiliated to the Russian-backed 5th Corps, have imposed a curfew in Elemtaih village and have detained a large number of adults and men in the village following the death of a general in the faction in clashes with wanted persons in the town. SOHR sources confirmed that elements of Liwaa 8th set fire in more than nine houses in Elemtaih village.

On July 7, SOHR reported that clashes in Elemtaih village have resulted in the death of a general leader and an element, while two others were injured in the Eighth Brigade affiliated to the Russain-backed 5th corps. This followed an attempt by the Brigade elements to detain a number of wanted individuals, where clashes took place with machine guns and a column of the Eighth brigade headed from Busra Al-Sham town and towards Elemtaih village east of Daraa.
