Arrested by Russian-backed formation | Civilian dies under torture in rural Daraa

Daraa province: SOHR activists have documented the death of a civilian under torture in prison of the Russian-backed 5th Corps. The victim was among dozens arrested by the Russian-backed militia in al-Mata’iyyah town in Daraa countryside.

 

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported that the 5th Corps released ten civilians after being arrested a few days earlier in al-Mata’iyyah village in the countryside of Daraa.

 

According to SOHR sources, one of the released civilians was subjected to brutal torture, where SOHR obtained a photo showing marks of torture on his body, while 29 other civilians remained in the prisons of the 5th Corps.

 

SOHR activists in eastern countryside of Daraa had reported that elements of the “8th Brigade”, which is affiliated to the Russian-backed 5th Corps, imposed a curfew in al-Mata’iyyah village and detained a large number of young and adult men in the village following the death of a general in the faction in clashes with suspects in the town. Moreover, SOHR sources confirmed that members of the 8th Brigade set fire to more than nine houses in al-Mata’iyyah village.

 

On July 7, Observatory activists documented the death of a group leader and a member of Russian-backed 8th Brigade of the 5th Crops and injury of two others in an attempt by the Russian-backed militiamen to arrest some suspects. Meanwhile, the clashes lasted till this evening. On the other hand, a column belongs to the 8th Brigade advanced from Bosra al-Sham city towards al-Mata’eya village, east Daraa.
