Aleppo | Al-Jabhah Al-Shamiyah arrests civilian in Afrin countryside and demands a ransom to release him
Aleppo province: Activists of SOHR have reported new chapter in the daily series of violations against the population in Afrin city where Al-Jabhah Al-Shamiyah arrested a civilian from Rajo neighborhood in Afrin countryside, in the past few hours, and demanded his family to pay a ransom to release him.
Earlier in the day, SOHR activists reported that a member of al-Sham Division, named “Abu Khalil” assaulted 74-year- old lady from Kawenda village of Rajo town in Afrin on July 4. He hit her with a chair and insulted her with dirty words because she refused to pay what is so-called “protection levy.”
Turkish-backed al-Hamzah Division has imposed taxes starting from 200-500 Turkish lira on the population of Kokanih village under control of Ma’abatly town in Afrin countryside northern Aleppo for what is so-called the protection levy. Abu Sultan, leader of al-Hamzah Division has informed the population to pay the taxes during their meeting in the house of the village’s mayor.
Abu Sultan has threatened the people in case of rejecting to pay the taxes that their properties would be subject for looting and the faction wouldn’t be responsible for any kind of protection. However, the new tax doesn’t include the tariffs of harvesting olive or that other annual taxes that are imposed on the lands owners that are estimated at 20 percent on one season.
