Despite Russia’s promises | Shelling and clashes continue in Daraa al-Balad, as no agreement reached so far

Daraa province: SOHR sources have reported that violent clashes continued in Daraa al-Balad in Daraa city until this dawn between the 4th Division and local gunmen, as the 4th Division was attempting to advance into the town. Despite the intensive bombardment which accompanied the attack, the 4th Division failed to advance into Daraa al-Balad. Meanwhile, tense calm has been prevailing the region since dawn, while the two sides are being put on high alert. It is worth noting that no agreement or settlement has been reached so far, despite promises by the Russians.

Last night, SOHR sources have reported that regime forces escalated their bombardment with mortars and anti-tank weapons on the neighbourhoods of Daraa al-Balad, amid clashes with machineguns in an attempt by the 4th Division to advance in the to town’s neighbourhoods.

SOHR sources had reported that Daraa al-Balad town and surrounding villages were suffering from lack of flour allocated to the bread bakeries, as well as the lack of basic products and drinking water in light of the suspension of work in the region for weeks. This humanitarian crisis coincided with bringing military reinforcement by regime forces, along with blocking the roads to Daraa city and countryside.

On the other hand, regime forces and the 4th Division continued their bombardment with heavy weapons on Daraa al-Balad, Daraa camp, Tariq al-Sadd, al-Ajami area, the surrounding areas of al-Rayy in eastern al-Muzayrib and the western suburbs of Tafas.

This bombardment and attacks came as a part of pressure exerted on the residents and dignitaries of Daraa in order to force them accept the regime demands in light of the daily meetings between the central committees and tribal committee on one hand, and the security committee on the other, under supervision by a Russian delegation.
