Considerable human and material losses | Uncertainty surrounds explosion in commercial ship in Latakia harbour

SOHR sources have reported an explosion in a commercial ship docked in Latakia harbour, which left casualties and caused considerable material damage. However, the reason behind the explosion has not been known so far.

On April 24, SOHR sources said that three Syrians died due to the burning of a fuel tank on the Iranian oil tanker opposite the city of Banyas on the Syrian coastline. It is not known yet whether the fatalities were of the staff working on the tanker or not.

Hours earlier, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored an explosion in an oil tanker coming from Iran, near the oil refinery in the coastal city of Banyas. According to SOHR sources, the fires were unlikely to be caused by a technical failure. However, it was not known whether the explosion was caused by a drone attack or naval attack on an oil tank on the tanker.
