As tense calm prevails in Daraa city | Regime forces and local gunmen trade fire in eastern countryside

Daraa province: SOHR sources have reported exchange of fire this evening between local gunmen and regime forces stationed at Sayda checkpoint in the eastern countryside of Daraa, as RPGs were used during the calshes. However, no casualties have been reported.

 

On the other hand, regime forces attacked the outskirts of Tafas city in the north-western countryside of Daraa.

 

This development coincided with tense calm prevailing in Daraa city.

 

Observatory sources reported earlier this morning that tense calm prevailed in Daraa al-Balad and the surrounding areas of Daraa city since the early hours of Monday morning, along with the start of implementing the terms of the Russian agreement that stipulated for applying ceasefire, evacuation of civilians besieged in Daraa al-Balad and handing over of weapons.

 

Meanwhile, regime forces and the 4th Division attacked, last night, the besieged neighbourhoods in Daraa al-Balad with tanks and heavy machineguns, along with clashes with machineguns between local gunmen and regime forces on the outskirts of Daraa al-Balad.

 

The exchange of fire came after the negotiations committee announced, after end of the negotiation round held yesterday, that it did not completely agree on the Russian proposal.

 

The most prominent outcomes of the latest round of negotiaitions could be summaries in the following:

 

  • Starting a ceasefire

 

  • Opening a humanitarian corridor

 

  • Handing weapons over

 

  • Starting settlement of security situation of the wanted individuals

 

  • Conducting patrols by Russian police to monitor and supervise the ceasefire.

 

Yesterday, the negotiation Committee and the Russian delegation agreed on starting settlement of security situations of the wanted individuals and handing their weapons over to regime forces, with specifying Zanobyah School as the center where these weapons will delivered. In addition, the two sides agreed on preparing busses for transporting civilians and women, who are not wanted by regime forces, from Daraa al-Balad through al-Saraya crossing.

 

On The other hand, The Negotiation Committee has announced that the agreement stipulated the displacement of wanted people, and that green busses are prepared to transport them out.

 

SOHR reliable sources confirmed that everyone stays in the region without settling their security status, will be considered as a terrorist and prosecuted by the Russians.

 

It is worth noting that Russian forces supervise the implementation of the agreement, which will take 15 days.

 

A day earlier, Russian forces patrols escorted by four vehicles had arrived at al-Saraya checkpoint that separated Daraa al-Balad and Daraa al-Mahata.

 

SOHR activists had reported that that four “Green” vehicles and several cars carrying some civilians who were likely correspondents of regime media to report exist of the besieged civilians in Daraa al-Balad to the vehicles of to the neighborhood of Daraa al-Mahata.

 

A few hours earlier, regime forces bombarded with Gvozdika shelling in the vicinity of a leader’s headquarters in Tafs and the northwest hills in al-Yadoodah neighborhood in western Daraa.

 

According to sources, the opposition leader reported that he did not trust Russia and refuses to hand over his weapons.
